There are a few questions I get asked regularly like, “Becky, how do you meet so many famous people? How do you win so many contests?!” All of my good fortune started about four years ago, and since then I’ve won quite a few meet & greets, concert tickets and a couple of trips to Las Vegas. It’s crazy! Some days I can’t believe how blessed I’ve been, and honestly, I don’t know how I keep getting so lucky. But if you wanted an answer to the above question, I’d say it’s been a lot of good luck, but also working to win these sorts of things. Here are a few pieces of advice for people who want to know my “secret” to winning:
You can’t just enter a few contests and expect to win right off the bat. If you were to look at my win/lose ratio for entering contests, it wouldn’t be that great. I enter almost every single contest I see, which is why it might seem like I’ve won so much. By following radio stations, record labels, musicians, and blogs on Facebook and Twitter, you’ll see a lot of contests that others might not! Enter something even if you know the odds of winning are almost impossible — you can’t win if you don’t enter.
A lot of meet & greets I’ve won through fan clubs for my favorite musicians. If you can afford to join them (most cost around $15-25 for a year membership), it’s totally worth it. Among other things, you gain access to pre-sale tickets and the opportunity to enter to win meet & greets. Many fan clubs aren’t that well known, so that makes your odds of winning even higher. Thanks to fan clubs, I’ve won meet & greets with Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, and Sugarland (twice).
The most important piece of advice I could give you would be to read the rules for contests: if it says you can enter daily, ENTER DAILY. It takes two minutes to go to that website and enter, so why not do it as much as you can? There was a point where I had 5+ contest pages bookmarked on my computer, and when I opened Google Chrome in the morning they would all pop up. I’d go through and enter them all, then go about my day. It took five minutes out of my day, tops, and won me a trip to the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas to meet Taylor Swift. On that note, if you can tweet as many times as you want, TWEET AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT. A whole lot of tweeting won me another trip to Las Vegas to see Beyoncé in concert!
Unfortunately, even if you do everything I said above, there’s no guarantee you will win something. You have to be a lucky person. But as cheesy as this may sound, stay positive. Keep entering, because you never know when you will get lucky. And be nice to people — I believe in karma, and you never know which one of your friends might need a plus one to a meet & greet or concert they won tickets for.
