What is MYMOM?
MYMOM is a ten week long leadership development program where you have the opportunity to recognize your capacity to be a leader and begin your adventure to make your own mark on JMU’s campus. MYMOM promotes sense of belonging on campus by providing a home away from home.
What do Monday’s look like?
The program takes place on Monday nights from 7-9:15. You will be placed in a council (small group) which you will see each Monday. Each council is between 7-10 students and is led by two upperclass student leaders who want to inspire, support, develop you! There will be approximately 10 councils within the entirety of the program. There will be a speaker to begin each session followed by council time. In council time, you will participate in activities and deeper discussions. MYMOM takes a topical approach and will focus on a different facet of leadership each week (i.e. building relationships, diversity, personal values, navigating difficult conversations, etc.).
What do I get out of it?
This program has time-and-time again helped students build community, find meaningful involvement and heighten confidence & self-awareness. Additionally, most participants use MYMOM as a springboard to get involved in other areas on campus and truly make their mark. Having MYMOM on your resume will set you apart as it shows that you took initiative and truly invested in yourself to become a better leader and better person as a whole.
