College life is stressful. Between keeping up with classwork, extracurriculars, and maintaining a balanced schedule it can be hard to find time to relax and unwind. Mad4U is here to fix this problem with their new, reoccurring Game Night series. The first game night of the semester kicked-off on Thursday, February 27th in TDU, and was received positively by the students in attendance.
Mad4U employees started setting up just before 7 pm. There were a wide variety of board and card games available for students to choose from. All the classics were there, including Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble, and many more. Students grabbed a game board, sat anywhere in TDU, and just had fun. Lots of laughter could be heard from different clusters of people hunched over their board games.
“Our events try to bring people together and form a student community,” said Susannah Hosay, a junior Justice Studies major and Mad4U employee.
Mad4U’s Game Night is a great way to have a fun, stress-free evening with your friends. The casual nature of the event adds to the relaxing atmosphere that Mad4U wants to create for students. There was a small selection of snacks available to keep the attendees gaming all evening long. The event is open to any and all students looking for something fun to add to their schedules.
“We love board games,” said freshman Communications major Sadie Aram during a break from an intense game of Battleship. “I saw the event on Instagram, and five minutes later I was here.”
Events like this are essential for creating a friendly and inviting campus community. It’s especially important for new students on campus who might not feel like part of the JMU community yet. “Sometimes it’s nice to have a staple event in the week you can look forward to,” said Hosay.
Mad4U is looking to host Game Nights twice a month over the course of the semester. It’s a wholesome, stress-free event within the JMU community that allows students to hang out with their friends, and maybe make some new ones.
