Virginia Beach native Tommy Koehler got his first start in photography during his junior year of high school when he began taking photographs of the beautiful Virginia landscape. Though growing up on the coast instilled a love of any activity involving water, Tommy loves traveling and backpacking out west just as much. He documents his adventures through his photography, capturing each moment with meticulous shots. This habit of being detail-oriented also translates well into another one of his hobbies: cooking.
Currently in his senior year, Tommy was initially attracted to JMU for its positive culture, genuine love, and distinct sense of community. He enjoys being a SMAD major because he has the ability to create user centered design. He particularly likes testing and improving his abilities to have them meet the industry’s standard. After college, Tommy hopes to possibly work in creative consulting or user interface design.
Tommy uses his talents to journal and record his life through pictures. He loves photography because he enjoys capturing candid moments and watching people get hyped upon seeing them. In the future, Tommy hopes he can spark this enthusiasm in TAD and it’s clients.
Fun Fact: Tommy is a recorded musician, he plays drums on the two albums his band has released!
