Double major in English and Media Arts & Design with a concentration in Creative Advertising, as well as a minor in Creative Writing
“I am sort of obsessed with the written word in any way I get it,” admits junior Tatum Conner, “fiction, poetry, nonfiction or even ads.” A voracious reader and an avid writer, Tatum’s hobbies have long coincided with her career aspirations. Luckily, this English and Media Arts & Design double major has found a viable path in her creative advertising concentration, which serves as a practical application of her love of English. With advertising, Tatum plans on producing eye-catching social media and copy while utilizing the fundamentals of English and the inventive side of her creative writing minor.
“My dream job is to be working for a well-established ad firm telling stories in new ways in their writing department, while being independently wealthy off my poetry book sales of course,” she says.
Tatum joined TAD’s writing team to develop her professional writing skills and interviewing techniques to achieve her career goals, enabled by TAD’s culture of cultivating growth and learning. She also was excited to experience working with TAD’s engaging and unique staff both within her own team and with others.
When Tatum isn’t reading or writing, (a rare moment) she enjoys hiking and cooking. As with many students, Tatum fell in love with the campus atmosphere and the nearby mountains, and relishes the opportunity to explore the Shenandoah Valley.
Fun fact: Tatum is part of the editing staff of the newest online writing magazine on JMU campus, Reduced Pulp!
