Majors: Journalism & International Affairs
Sophomore Filip de Mott is a member of TAD’s Video Team. He is a SMAD Journalism and International Affairs double major. He found his way to the Video Team after professional staff member Lindsey Kelly emailed him. Filip created a short, “very cringey,” video announcing his commitment to JMU that won the College Board’s #Collegiance challenge. #Collegaince is yearly contest for students to creatively share which college they’re attending. Filip’s award winning submission caught Lindsey’s eye, and she encouraged him to apply for a position at TAD during his freshman year.
In his free time, Filip likes to be outdoors. He enjoys hiking and biking and can often be seen traveling around campus on his bike with no brakes. When he’s not being active, he likes to settle in with a good video game or movie. He also enjoys travelling and has been to all fifty states. He doesn’t have a favorite state because he’s found something from each place he’s been that he likes.
While he has some experience producing videos for clients, Filip hopes to learn more about this area of TAD. He thinks these skills will be important to him as he pursues his dream career of being a video journalist. He sees TAD as an opportunity to practice new video and filmmaking techniques as well. He’s particularly interested in using green screens in his work.
Filip has big plans for the future. His goal in life is to become a video journalist. In five years, he hopes to be a, “rugged man, speaking spanish, living in South America as a journalist, and changing the world through media.”
His ambitious goals might take a while to achieve though, so his immediate plan of action is to get a dog to keep him company.
