What is Mindful Experience Retreat Afternoon?
Every month, Mad 4U hosts an opportunity to relax, rejuvenate, learn something new, and invest in self care at a mini Afternoon Retreat. These events run from 1pm – 5pm in Madison Union and bring some of the Valley’s most well thought of practitioners, healers, yogis, and teachers. Come experience something from one of the world’s great faith paths or healing modalities. Or just come for the great vibes and sense of community!
Sept. 14th, Astrologer Kathy Rose – “What is needed in order to have balance in life is the equal development of our “inner technology.” We all have within us the ability to self-activate natural mood elevation – without alcohol, nicotine, drugs or overeating. Knowing how to direct your state of mind toward inner peace and relaxation – on command – is a valuable asset in dealing with life pressure and maintaining spiritual harmony.
Oct. 19th -Yogi Jason Nichols – Yoga, Music, Breath – “Learn to simplify your life, refine your focus, and be more present through different techniques and practices. We will discuss and practice yoga techniques that can easily fit into your daily routine. Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation and Music!”

Board certified Music Therapist Robby McCoubrey will be sharing different methods, styles and uses for group drumming. Experienced with Alternative Education programs for those experiencing mental illness or recovering from incarceration, Robby uses his Music Teacher certification to uplift and enlighten participants through rhythm, sound, and the group drumming experience. Jan. 25th – Connie Magee – Harrisonburg-based multidimensional teacher, healer & medicine woman, who uses bodywork, stones, sound healing, crystals, Reiki and Indigenous Shamanic medicines. She seamlessly and simultaneously blends them during sessions to facilitate deep, powerful healing in clients. She is also an Experienced Yoga and Meditation Teacher, ERYT500. Feb. 22nd – Lori Derr, M.Ed.: Vocalist, Teacher, and Devotee of the Skill and Spirit of Musical Improvisation – “Creating Music of the Moment”, a workshop featuring circle singing, vocal improvisation, and spontaneous co-created group composition.
Bio: Inspired by her background in jazz vocal performance, in 2011 Lori Derr sought out the adventures of groove-driven spontaneous vocal group compositions via leader-led “Circle Singing”, as taught by Bobby McFerrin, and via Rhiannon’s co-led “Vocal River Forms”. Lori is thrilled to teach, lead and co-lead all levels of singers in these joyful improvisational musical experiences. In MU 256 – Warren Hall

Gina is a Registered Nurse, Certified Healing Touch Practitioner/Instructor & Herbalist who has long been interested in the healing arts, energetic principles, integrative therapies & living a heart centered life. She is an avid gardener who loves creating from garden to kitchen by bringing the richness of healing plants & foods to support & nourish our bodies while caring for the earth we live on.
