Tuesday – Open Mic Night at 7:30pm
Every Tuesday night in Taylor Down Under, Madison 4 U hosts an open mic night, which gives JMU students an opportunity to be in the spotlight. Solo and small ensemble acts are welcome be it poetry, stand-up, or music as long as it’s legal this is your opportunity for 20 minutes of fame! Starting on Tuesday morning students can sign up to perform either by calling the TDU hotline (540-568-7853) or online here. Musicians, please consider this an audition for our Tunes at Noon show every Friday in TDU!
Tuesday and Thursday – “Mindful Madison” at 12:30pm
Mindful Madison, which meets in Taylor 405 and is led by JMU professor Jared Featherstone, encourages students to expand their knowledge within and beyond their own faith traditions by experiencing mindfulness meditation. This is a secular meditation event, no experience required and everyone is welcome!
Mindfulness meditation has enabled many people to understand their stress, improve personal relationships, and develop deep concentration, using methods practiced for over 2500 years. No experience is necessary. Cushions, mats, and chairs will be provided, though you are free to bring your own. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome.
Wednesday – Teatime at 4:00pm
Come celebrate “hump-day” every Wednesday over Tea and scones! Teatime has quickly become a tradition for community building and sharing, over a cup of hot tea provided by Mad4U. Teatime will be held outside on the beautiful Warren Patio while weather permits. Later, when temperatures chill, invite your favorite professor to join you in the hallway outside of the Student Activities and Involvement office, Taylor 205A.
“Mindful Madison” at 12:00pm
Come join us in Taylor 400 for a mid-week relaxer. As the second meditation opportunity each week, we look forward to seeing you there!
Fridays – Tunes at Noon.
Grab your lunch and head to TDU @noon every Friday for a lunchtime showcase of student talent recruited from Open Mic Night on Tuesday. During every Open Mic Night, our talent scouts are out and listening for performers who can hold the stage for an hour long concert to celebrate week’s end!
Mario Kart? Smash Bros?
Madison 4 U will be hosting a tournament event a couple of times a semester, in TDU. Prizes will be awarded. See calendar for exact dates and times. **Calendar information above!
Weekend Action – Creative Madison Craft Night
Mad 4U hosts an open studio in the Clubhouse, Taylor 202 every Saturday evening from 7:30 until 12am and you don’t have to be an art major to come get your “creative” on! We will put out supplies for a variety of projects including card and jewelry making as well as provide the space to spread out a bit and work on art of your own imagining. Look for theme development on some Saturdays as we invite local artists and crafters for special events. Get a feather in your hair, paint a pair of Tom’s, make a hula hoop, or learn to sketch for stress relief. We’ve got the space if you’ve got the time and interest, plus a cookie. What’s not to love?!?
Fall Semester – Chalkfest
Meet us on the patio outside of Grafton Stovall for an opportunity to release your inner sidewalk artist, complete for prizes, and express yourself on our theme.
Mad 4U invites the JMU Community to a festival of art, beauty, introspection and chalkdust. You got it… our 5th Chalkfest will commence at a TBD date in September. Anyone is able to enter!
Coming Spring Semester 2014
Mad 4U will produce it’s fifth annual “For Love” benefit gala in February. Past events have included For Love for Haiti, For Love for Tyler and For Love for the Gulf. Keep your eyes peeled for the date and time! And be sure to grab your glad rags when you’re home over break because this event is a dress to the nines affair!
