FSLsigma chi

Chapter History

As one of the largest fraternities in the country, Sigma Chi has an illustrious past. Founded as an opposition to injustices occurring at Miami of Ohio, the seven Founding Fathers vowed to uphold the ideals of Friendship, Justice, and Learningñvalues that our 38 Brothers are strongly committed to. The Iota Beta Chapter of Sigma Chi was founded at JMU in 1987. Over the past twenty years we have strived to uphold the ideals the Founding Fathers established in 1855.

Currently

Sigma Chi has played a large role in James Madisonís Greek community. Each spring our philanthropy event, Derby Days is held to raise money for the Childrenís Miracle Network. The week long sorority competition helped raise over $4,400 dollars for the foundation in 2008. In addition, we were softball intramural champions in 2006 and 2007, and the 2007 Sigma Kappa Turkey Bowl Champions.

We would like to invite any man that is interested in entering lifelong Brotherhood an opportunity to rush. Brotherhood is the highest honor, and places you in an elite class. Sigma Chi is the only Greek-letter society to be recognized by Congress for its 150th anniversary. Sigma Chi alumni include United States Presidents (Grover Cleveland), entertainers (Brad Pitt, John Wayne, David Letterman, Tom Selick), and athletes/coaches (Drew Brees, Mike Ditka, Mike Holmgren, Woody Hayes).
