FSLPhi Gamma Delta (FIJI) OLD

Chapter History

Founded on May 1st, 1848, the International Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, also known as Fiji, currently has 116 chapters at colleges and universities across the United States and Canada. As a social fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta exists to promote lifelong friendships, to reaffirm high ethical standards and values, and to foster personal development in the pursuit of excellence. Phi Gamma Delta is also committed to provide opportunities for each brother to develop responsibility, leadership, scholarship and social skills in order to become a fully contributing member of society.

The gentlemen of Phi Gamma Delta continually aspire to live out our five values: FRIENDSHIP, KNOWLEDGE, SERVICE, MORALITY, and EXCELLENCE.

Friendship, which brings us together and is the basis of our brotherhood.

Knowledge, the primary reason our members attend college and the key to a fuller, richer life.

Service, in recognition of our obligation to give back to the campus and community that foster our growth.

Morality, our commitment to do what is right in all our relationships.

Excellence, the achievement of the full potential of the chapter and the individual members.

Members of Phi Gamma Delta hold our Greek letters in reverence. Therefore, we limit their display to a select number of places, such as the front of the chapter house, the fraternity flag, class rings, and the member badge. Thus, when a member of Phi Gamma Delta is seen wearing letters on campus, our nickname, FIJI is present on the article of clothing.

On April 1st, 1993 the Mu Chi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta came into existence. Throughout the years, the brothers of FIJI have demonstrated and received awards for, “Campus Relations”, “Housing”, “Scholarship”, “Leadership”, and “Community Service”. We, as brothers, continue to reaffirm our brotherhood whether it be through service to the community, inter-fraternal athletics, or hosting philanthropic events. The brothers of Phi Gamma Delta at JMU strongly oppose hazing to the fullest extent and persevere towards one goal: excellence.
