This year we will be raising awareness and money for The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham Inc. The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham has been serving individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities since 1962. They are dedicated to improving the quality of life for all individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Money made during Greek Week will also go towards The Fraternity and Sorority Life Scholarship Endowment which benefits one undergraduate male student and one undergraduate female student seeking to join a Greek organization. Finally, some of the money will be donated towards each organization’s philanthropy within the winning team.

Tuesday 4/22/2014 Greek Sing

Convocation Center
Doors Open: 6:15 PM
Starts: 7 PM
General Admissions: $6

Greek sing 2013 is an event where all organizations prepare a routine and will be judged on hands, dancing, props and over all theme.

Wednesday 4/23/2014 Shack A Thon

Hillside Field
Time: 5:00 PM * All teams must clean up their structures any time before 9 AM on Thursday April 24th.
Judging: Throughout the evening

During this event, the different teams will build their shacks out of cardboard, strings, paint, tarps, duct tape, bubble wrap, scissors, team posters, and any other materials they can find. Please note: Do not put any stakes in the ground. If an organization does this it will mean automatic disqualification from the event. Each team will be designated a specific area by the Greek Week committee upon arrival. We also encourage teams to have their organizations represented on the structured since it will be part of the judging. Building of all structures must be completed by 11:59PM. Immediately after, teams must have a minimum of 2-5 members in the structure at all times. Awards will start at 12:30AM, continue every hour, and the last award at 9AM. Each award will count as 50 points toward a team’s total Greek Week points. Points will also be awarded to teams who bring snacks for their shacks throughout the night. The judges will give out the following awards:
Tallest Shack (height)
Most creative
Biggest Shack (fits the most comfortably at one time)
Nicest Interior
Longest lasting team (2-5 each hour)
Best before & after (durable)
Most Team Spirited (team posters)
Greatest Effort
The Biggest “Arc” (who donates the most in penny wars by 9am)

Thursday 4/24/2014 Survivor Day

Location: Hillside Field

Survivor Day will consist of the four activities listed below:

Kickball Tournament:
This event will be a single elimination event. There must be 6 people per team (half boys and half girls). Teams must score 5 points to win and win by at least 2 points in a 20 minute game. No pegging the opposing team will be allowed. You must only tag the base to get an out. First place will receive 150 points and second place will receive 100 points.

Basketball Tournament:
This event will be a single elimination event. There must be 4 people per team (half boys and half girls). The winning team must score 21 points to advance. First place will receive 150 points and second place will receive 100 points.

Balance Board Challenge:
Members of your team may test their balance on the balance board. As many members may participate but the longest time spent by one member on the balance board will count as the team’s time rank. The top 5 team time ranks will receive 50 points toward their team’s total Greek Week points.

Friday 4/25/2014 Greek Games

12 PM- 3 PM
Location: Hillside Field

The Greek games will be compiled of an obstacle course, tug-of-war, as well as corn hole (no points awarded for corn hole). In the obstacle course and the three-legged race 1st place will receive 150 points, 2nd place 100 points, and 3rd place 75 points based on finishing time. In the tug a war competition 1st place will receive 150 points and 2nd place will receive 100 points. Below is a brief description of each event:

Obstacle Course
Hula hoops: 20 hula hoop circles are required before advancing
Army crawl: use elbows and legs to wiggle under the yarn
Dizzy bat: 5 turns on the bat must be completed before running
Cardboard box crawl: crawl through tunnel of cardboard boxes to advance
Dribble soccer ball through cones: dribble ball between each cone to advance
Two person wheel barrow race: hold up one partner’s feet while moving on course
Ping Pong Run: balance a ping pong ball on a spoon by holding with your mouth

Three- Legged Race
Each team must have one male and one female tied together in the race.

Tug a War
This event will work as single elimination. Each team is required to have at least 3 girls and a maximum of 10 people per team.

Senior Night

Time: TBD
Location: Clementine (still awaiting confirmation)

Come celebrate the end of the semester with the Greek community downtown at Clementine. Points will be awarded based on the percentage of seniors from each team’s organizations that attend.

Saturday 4/26/2014 Closing Ceremony

Festival Lawn

As the week comes to an end we invite everyone to come out and enjoy a final event on the Festival lawn. We will have an assortment of JMU’s a cappella groups and Lots of food. There will also be a fingering painting banner contest on the Festival windows and a bake off where the winners for each will be awarded additional prizes. We really want this to be an event where all the organizations can come together and support each other and have a good time!

Throughout Greek Week
Scavenger Hunt

Throughout the week there will be an opportunity to earn extra points from completing scavenger hunt activities. At the beginning of the week, each team will receive a list of photo tasks that will earn their team additional points. Photos must be uploaded on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with #GreekWeek2014. With each of these photos the team must have their team color visible in the picture. Teams can do all of the tasks, but will earn points based on each individual one.

The Arc Donations / Penny Wars

At every event we will be having an area for donations to The Arc. We are really looking forward to contributing to The Arc and hope everyone helps us in raising money throughout the week.
