It’s that spook-tacular time of the year again! Tomorrow, October 27th is JMU Fraternity and Sorority Life’s free annual Trick-or-Treating on the Row event, so grab your costume and candy bucket and head to sorority row on Bluestone Drive!
From 4 to 6 pm, kids of all ages from the community can stop by for trick-or-treating, games, and crafts. Families of JMU staff and alumni are also welcome, as well as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County!
Brooms – I mean cars – can be parked at Bridgeforth Stadium’s Champion Parking Deck for the event from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Every house on the row participates by wearing costumes or letters to show their Halloween and JMU spirit. The current vice president of community service for the Panhellenic Council, Monika Dammann, even dressed up her dog as Yoda last year.
“I love making the members of our community feel special and showing the best aspect of Greek life through our outreach,” says Dammann, who coordinated the event this year.
Senior Dammann has participated in the event for three years now and most looks forward to the costumes and the excitement. The kids are most ecstatic about getting to trick-or-treat twice, while their parents appreciate being included in the JMU community and welcomed on campus.
Panhellenic President Caitlin DiChiara, also a senior, agrees by saying “watching the happiness on the faces of the children and parents is wonderful. Overall, it’s just a fun time to interact with the FSL staff and the families of the ‘burg and have that connection with the community.”
DiChiara said her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, has already bought an enormous amount of candy, and is sure the other houses have as well, so bring your biggest basket for trick-or-treating tomorrow.
